During the afternoon of Tuesday December 4, 1956, the world's first superstar jam session took place and the MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET was born! Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins sang and performed their favorite songs at the famous Sun studio in downtown Memphis, Tennessee.
Away from the glamour of the media spotlight, the impromptu performances provide a refreshing "fly-on-the-wall" glimpse of what music truly inspired four of the world's legendary artists. Their country roots run deep but the true common ground is gospel as they perform classics like "Peace In The Valley," "Just A Little Talk With Jesus" and "Blessed Jesus (Hold My Hand)." Country and gospel aside, Elvis was obviously keen to show off songs he was considering for his next RCA recording session such as "Is It So Strange" and "That's When Your Heartaches Begin." Jerry Lee also features his new single "Crazy Arms". A real highlight is Elvis impersonating Jackie Wilson's impersonation of him while performing "Don't Be Cruel" on stage in Las Vegas! Remarkably, this historic occasion was captured for posterity by the legendary Sam Phillips.
This 50th Anniversary Edition CD offers the COMPLETE RECORDED SESSION in the ORIGINAL SEQUENCE with 12 more minutes than any previous release! It features superior sounding audio from a newly found tape source and includes an informative essay by Sun Label expert Colin Escott.
A must-have for all music collectors and rock 'n' roll fans.
