No wonder this was worth a Grammy award. Elvis doing what he loved.
After making music under contracts for movies most of time since 1960, Elvis decided to go to Nashville to record music that were meaningful to him. It was like a return to his soul. Indeed that 1966 session was a one of the best since the Elvis Is Back session. A Gospel album, How Great Thou Art , the best among the three gospels albums he did during his career for me and a few secular wonderful new songs showing an intensify closer to real Elvis, a side we had forgotten for sometime.
one of the greatest gospel collection on disc, enjoy listening over and over again.
Elvis was one of the best Gospel singers that ever lived. The title could be a reference to his singing, using a small letter "t", of course! This is a Grammy winner, with EP at his best, singing the songs he loved the best.
Highly recommended.
This is another great sessions box from FTD--it breaks down the important 1966 How Great Thou Art recordings so that you get both the takes of the religious and secular songs. You really get a sense of the commitment that Elvis put into these sessions and a better understanding of their place in his career.
